Waste of money July 3, 2010 KP The only good think about this product was that it was easily returned and money was quickly refunded. It was awkward to use, soaked everything instead of steam-cleaning, the adjustable handle would not adjust. I would llike to find a hand-held steam cleaner that is as good as my Bissel floor cleaner!
Not impressed June 29, 2010 Mohsen Babaei I bought my SteamFast 292 last year and used it only couple of times because it's too inconvenient. I haven't used any other brand steamer so the others may have the same Pros & Cons. If you plan to use this steamer as a mop, forget it. Even with a low temp setting as recommended by other ratings it leaves enough water on the floor that forces you to use the mop afterwards. Would that defeat the purpose? You decide. Pros: You can use any piece of towel for pads so you are stuck with manufacturer pads. The pivot head get it around the corners and under the tables Has multifunction purpose although I am not sure if I want to use it as the clothes steamer after using it in my restroom. With high steam temperature it's a good means of disinfecting the surface. Cons: The telescopic handle (made for ease of shipment) is the weakest link of the design because mine is about to break right where it enters the steamer reservoir. It's cheaper than the telescopic handle of $5 squeegee. The cord dispenser hooks must be the design of a 5 year old because the short distance between the two hooks result a long part of the cord just hanging in the air. It leaves enough water on tiles-even with the lowest temp setting-that forces you to use the mop afterwards; but in my opinion that's normal for high steam touching the cold floor. The floor must already be clean of any dust otherwise the pad leaves all kinds of dirt when you pull back the steamer.
Dead on Arrival May 20, 2010 R. Graves (Seattle, WA) I bought this because I was moving and didn't open it and try until 30 days after I purchased it (which made ineligible for return - I think I might be able to return less a stocking fee.) Anyway, took it out of the box, put distilled water in it - turned it on.... nothing. Lots of pumping noise but no steam. I called the manufacturer and they have offered to repair it - but it seems like a lot of work to have to ship something back I just bought.
Long term user review: Not a product I recommend May 10, 2010 Bad Steamer 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We purchased this steamer specifically for the floor tiles in our kitchen, so the ability to convert to a handheld steamer was a bonus. Unfortunately this steamer does not get that hot. Using a cooking thermometer we measured the steam temperature at 218 F right against the steam tip. This temperature was enough to clean out floors, but as a handheld steamer it was not powerful enough to remove mildew, soap scum, or clean grout. It was easier and faster to take out a nylon brush and some cleaner than using the SteamFast. However, since the primary job was floor cleaning we kept the machine and babied it. That means we only used distilled water, cleaned the nozzle regularly, and occasionally ran diluted vinegar to remove mineral deposits. Still, the first unit stopped working within 4 months. It simply would not generate steam anymore. It would heat up but not draw water from the reservoir. It took several days to track down a person at Steam Fasts customer service. It sounded as if the whole company was run out of somebody's garage. However, to their credit, once we finally got through they agreed to send us a new unit after we returned our (at our cost). Eight months later, the new unit is no longer working. Same problem as the first one. We are done with Steam Fast and are researching alternatives. Other issues with this unit: - The reservoir cap quickly becomes very hard to open, close and the hard plastic construction and rib design is actually painful to operate. We ended up using a towel to open/close the reservoir. - The cord is short, but our kitchen has enough outlets that this did not become a major issue for us. On the plus side, when the unit worked it heated very quickly and produced steam in under a minute. I would beware of the positive reviews from new users of this product. In our experience within a year the SteamFast units become a disappointment.
wonderful for the price April 30, 2010 butterflymom (Morton, IL) I really like this mop and especially that it can be used for multiple tasks. So much better than a mop and bucket! However about 2 months after I got it, I apparently tighted the handle too hard and it wouldn't stay tight anymore. My husband rigged it with tie straps so I can use it OK, but I think a more expensive mop wouldn't have broken so easily. Overall I'm very happy with it though.
