5 out of 5 stars LOVE IT!   July 16, 2010

This is the first carpet-cleaning machine we've tried that actually seems to work. Have used it twice so far and were very pleased with the results. Would definitely recommend.

5 out of 5 stars Bissell Proheat 2x 9500 - well worth the price !!   July 16, 2010
K.E.B. (Midwest USA)
I just purchased this Bissell Proheat 2x 9500 to replace my Hoover SteamVac. The Hoover cleans ok, but I really wanted this Bissell. This Bissell Proheat 2x 9500 is well worth the additional cost !!

The setup was extremely easy, and the instruction manual easy to understand. The tools are far easier to use than on the SteamVac. Please note that the warranty EXCLUDES commercial use.

I didn't find any "yuckiness" with emptying the dirty water for which some reviewers have complained. The dirty water does surround the clean water bladder ... HOWEVER, there's a little spout for emptying the dirty water. It's far cleaner to empty the dirty water than gunk in washing dishes.

The heater does exactly as promised -- it warms the clean water to 15 degrees above the temp of the water poured into the bladder (hot tap water only). The machine is no heavier than an old-fashioned vac, or one of those rented carpet steamers.

I have cats and cat parents will understand how cat stains and "litter box issues" can leave set in stains. This Bissell Proheat 2x 9500 has removed them all !! For some, it did take a few passes. The upholstery tool also removed a really old stain from an antique chair.

I've used it three times now, and my beige carpeting looks like new again. GREAT CARPET CLEANER !! (And "no" -- I do NOT work for Bissell.)

5 out of 5 stars Are you confused???   July 12, 2010

If you're looking through these reviews you're probably as confused as I was a few weeks ago. I didn't realize there were so many choices on the market. I cleaned carpets professionally when I was younger so I had a pretty good idea about the features necessary for the best cleaning job. Since many of the models had identical features, I decided on the Bissell Red Berends 9500 (OK--I liked Red). So far, I think I made the right choice at the right price.

The distribution of the cleaning solution, the mechanical action of the double row of brushes, & the powerful extraction of dirty water are all the elements you need for a complete rug cleaning job. Sure, you have to empty the dirty water often & replace it with the clean, but isn't that what cleaning is all about? Besides, changing the water is really easy because of the unique way it's designed; and, you don't have to measure & mix the cleaning solution because you can dial it automatically for light, normal or heavily soiled areas. You can also set it for a water rinse to remove some of the soap solution. I like this feature because leftover soap tends to collect dirt quicker if it's left in the carpet. I haven't had a chance to use all of the 4 hand tools yet--except for the crevice tool which cleans the edges. It works great---even has a little sprayer on it to pinpoint the dirty areas by the baseboards.

I can't say that carpet cleaning is a fun job, but this machine makes it enjoyable because it does such a great job. Most of the time I kept the solution dial at "light" because it seemed to clean well without having to use more soap. Maybe this was because the carpet had been previously cleaned & some of the old soap residue still remained. This was where the "rinse" feature came in handy. The entire unit seems to be well made & should give me good service for years to come. I hope I'm right.

OK---the choice is still yours. I just wanted to limit your confusion.

5 out of 5 stars Love this carpet cleaner!   July 9, 2010
Mom
I had tried a smaller cleaner prior to purchasing this one. I never knew how dirty it was really leaving my floors! My carpets are white again- it's a miracle!

I have two concerns with the cleaner..
1- you have to empty the container pretty often & it seems to use a lot of cleaning solution.
2- I have two cats. Even though I vaccuumed before using the cleaner, there was still hair in the carpet. Instead of picking the hair up, the cleaner actually balled up the hair and would leave it on the floor in a wet mess. Nice of the machine to collect it for me, but picking the wet blob of soapy hair turned my incredibly weak stomach.

Over all, I love the machine. I am very happy with the cleaning performance. The carpets are much cleaner. I cleaned about a 300 square foot section of carpet every night, and it was dry by the next morning.

I would make the purchase again.... and again...

5 out of 5 stars Great machine for home   June 18, 2010

I had been looking for some time for an upright home carpet cleaner. As I shopped, I looked closely at both Hoover and at Rug Doctor, because I'd had a tank model Bissell several years ago that I was not happy with. I was glad when it died and I had to toss it! But, the longer I looked, the Bissells became more appealing. I was considering the model just below this one, but when Amazon had this one on sale well below list and local retail sale prices, I bought it.
The machine arrived promptly by FedEx ground at my doorstep.
I quickly set it up using a single phillips head screwdriver and got acquainted with my machine. I have spent the last couple of days working on my carpets, and right now I am happy with the results. The machine has a powerful moter and is not difficult to maneuver over the carpets. Like other machines, it works best when pulled and pushed slowly over the rugs. I use a much slower motion for this than what I use when vacuuming. This gives the vac time to suction up the moisture and shortens drying time. I'm not sure how much difference the air dryer made (clever use for the exhaust and a "sporty" look to the machine?) While I used as much solution as needed and followed with a thorough rinse to clean the carpets,I found my carpets were less wet with the way I use the Bissell compared to using a national brand carpet cleaning service.
I like the selection knob for different cleaning levels. This allowed me to adjust on the fly depending on whether I was cleaning a heavily soiled area or a less soiled one. The spot dispenser was neat and worked as advertised. The water containment system is a vast improvement from the system Bissell used in the past. The reservoir is easy to fill and to empty. Some have noted that it seems to need emptying often, but I didn't see that as a problem, given that water weighs about 8 pounds/gallon!The heating system kept the water consistently hot during cleaning.
Cleaning the machine after use was not difficult. Rinsing out the reservoirs and drying them, getting the fuzzys out of the nozzles and off the bottom of the machine and brushes was readily accomplished. Despite the Microban treatment of the machine's plastic parts, I did not re-assemble the reservoirs until they were thoroughly air dried. The instruction manual is helpful here, as it is for using the machine to clean carpets.
Right now the only con is one that is common to these machines. When you turn the power off to the machine, do have it on a waterproof surface as there is some minor leakage from the bottom of the machine that you will need to deal with.
I was impressed with the overall quality of the machine. It seems to be well designed for its purpose. I was concerned about reports of the durability of the performance of the moter and solution dispensing system, but that remains to be seen. I will certainly post here should I have those kinds of problems! For now, my carpets are clean and look like new. A good result from the Bissell 9500.
